IDEAS for USE
Included in each pack is an Ideas guide, so you can start using the cards straight away. Below are some examples - get in touch if you have suggestions!
EASY
“Find it” – show the photo of a hold, players have to find the closest match on the wall and hold it.
“Find it races” – as above but players have to touch as many of the hold type as possible within a time limit
“Match makers” – match the photo to the word. Remove/add cards for easier/harder attempts
“Simon says” – ‘Simon’ calls out a card for players to find or recreate on the wall (eg sloper/flag). Players loose if they do it without hearing ‘Simon says…
ADVANCED
“Creative Creatures“ – individually or in small groups, choose 5 or more technique cards & create a sequence of moves that work together. The other players guess all the moves used, then climb it
“No Eye Dear” – in pairs, one player chooses a card, then using blindfolds or closing eyes, the other player must find that hold on the wall or recreate the move on the wall
“On the spot” – in pairs, one player calls out moves/techniques from the card pack for their partner on the wall to immediately recreate. Works best on a wall with lots of holds, eg traverse.
“Twister with a twist” – all players are on a traverse wall, with one person on the ground calling directions from whatever card is next in the pack, eg left hand crimp
“Hold On!” – in pairs, one player finds a stable position on a traverse wall, the other player calls out a hold or technique from the pack that the player on the wall needs to find with the same hand each time, without coming off the wall.
IMPROVER
“What Am I?” – in pairs, one player holds a photo or word card up against their forehead without looking, their partner describes the photo or word without using the actual word
“Teach me” – in pairs or small groups, players teach each other something about a hold or move then find/practice it on the wall
Memory Game – can be done with 1 pack (using photo card & word card) or 2 packs (same photo card). Cards go face down on the floor, players win the pair of cards if they remember where the matching cards are
Exercise circuit – lay technique/move cards out on the floor, each player simulates the move on the ground in a circuit. Take the game on to the wall if appropriate
